The church in the nation’s capitol rang its bells 600 times, with each toll representing nearly 1,000 people in the U.S. who died from COVID-19, Reuters reported.

As of Thursday evening, the coronavirus pandemic has claimed the lives of 596,059 people, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Internationally, 3,768,987 people have died, according to the World Health Organization.

This isn’t the first time the bells tolled for COVID-19 victims. On Dec. 15, when the U.S. hit 300,000 deaths, the bells also rang, Reuters reported.
