Beach Weather make relaxed and soulful indie pop. Although the group initially emerged in 2015, they rose to wider attention after their song "Sex, Drugs, Etc." (off 2016's Chit Chat EP) went viral in 2022. The track's success paved the way for their full-length debut, 2023's Pineapple Sunrise.
Formed in 2015, Beach Weather is centered on singer/songwriter Nick Santino. Hailing from Braintree, Massachusetts, Santino initially began performing emo-pop under the name A Rocket to the Moon in 2006. After the group parted ways in 2013, he embarked on a solo career, releasing a handful of folk- and country-influenced EPs. In 2015, he formed Beach Weather, releasing the What a Drag EP and touring alongside the Maine. The following year, the group joined Sleeping with Sirens on a U.K. tour and issued a second EP, Chit Chat. Included on the release was the song "Sex, Drugs, Etc." However, the group went on indefinite hiatus in 2017.
It would be six years before Santino relaunched Beach Weather, playing a live show in January 2022. That June, "Sex, Drugs, Etc." went viral on social media and helped build buzz for the group. They marked the return with the single "Unlovable," which appeared in August 2022. The song also served as the first track released off the band's full-length debut, Pineapple Sunrise, which arrived in March 2023. Along with the previously released "Sex, Drugs, Etc.," it spawned several more singles, including the title track and "Trouble with This Bed." The album cracked the Top 40 of Billboard's Pop 100. ~ Matt Collar
