Watch trailer for 'Ladies & Gentlemen ...' 'SNL' music doc

NBCUniversal

Saturday Night Live has shared the trailer for its upcoming music documentary, Ladies & Gentlemen ... 50 Years of SNL Music.

In the clip, Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello declares, "SNL has served as a time capsule through the decades for America." Dave Grohl, who performed on SNL twice with Nirvana and many more times with Foo Fighters, adds, "To me, it was the most iconic American television show of all time."

The trailer also includes appearances by Jack White and Mick Jagger. Additionally, it references some of SNL's most controversial musical performances, including Sinéad O'Connor infamously ripping up a photo of the pope and Rage getting banned from the show after their appearance.

"You invited Rage Against the Machine, the 'I won't do what you tell me' band," Morello says. "That was their mistake."

Ladies & Gentlemen ... 50 Years of SNL Music premieres Jan. 27 on NBC and will be available to stream the next day on Peacock.
