It was the first time in 77 years that the Bears had the first pick in the draft, according to the Athletic.

Williams is the sixth No. 1 overall draft pick to come out of USC, the most from any one school, according to The Associated Press. He joins Carson Palmer, O.J. Simpson, Keyshawn Johnson, Rickey Bell and Ron Yary in the honor.

Williams won the Heisman Trophy in 2022, according to The Athletic.

With the No. 2 pick, the Washington Commanders selected Jayden Daniels, the AP reported. Daniels, who played at LSU, was the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner.

“I’m so thrilled and excited to welcome Jayden Daniels to the Commanders family! I’m looking forward to all the wins we will celebrate this season and years to come with you as our leader,” Magic Johnson posted, according to the AP. Johnson is part owner of the team.

The New England Patriots had the No. 3 pick and chose Drake Mayes, the AP reported. The No. 4 pick went to the Arizona Cardinals who chose Marvin Harrison Jr.

The second and third rounds of the draft will take place on Friday, with rounds four through seven set for Saturday.
