According to a recent tweet from Sean, P. Diddy, Puff Daddy, Combs, he pays Sting $5,000 every single day, forever, for using (read stealing) The Police’s Every Breath You Take. Diddy used the song for his Notorious B.I.G. tribute song I’ll Be Missing You, but he never got the approval or paid for the rights to sample the song. And the song was an enormous hit! So, naturally, Sting sued Diddy and won in court. In fact he won %100 of the song’s royalties forever. Initially people thought that was around $2,000 a day, but Diddy corrected this on Twitter by saying its actually $5,000 a day, every day, forever!

Of course Sting deserves all the royalties since the song is almost %100 sample, Diddy just wrote a couple new words for the verse.
