This week 97X launched the 97X Icons Podcast, presented by Tito’s Handmade Vodka!
Each episode will revisit an iconic interview in 97X History. For the first one, we went back to April 19 2007 when My Chemical Romance was in town for The Black Parade tour.
Gerard Way sat with Shark at the top of the (then called) St Pete Times Forum and answered fan questions. We had asked for these to be sent via email, and within hours of the request were flooded with hundreds of questions. The topics ranged from his personal life, to crazy rumors, school shootings, and even smooth vs. crunchy peanut butter.
My Chemical Romance had developed a special relationship with 97X at this point. They had played three 97XNBT’s and we were the one of the FIRST commercial radio stations to even give them airplay. So yeah...we were TIGHT.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
After disbanding in March of 2013, My Chemical Romance announced they would be reuniting for a concert in December 2019. This was soon followed by an announcement of shows in Australia, Japan, New Zealand and finally a North American Tour, which sold out in less than six hours! Unfortunately, due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, all the 2020 shows have been postponed to 2021. :( Big emo feels.
