Woman assaulted during dispute over face mask at New Jersey Staples, police say

HACKENSACK, N.J. — A 54-year-old woman was violently thrown to the ground after asking a customer standing near her to properly wear a mask, police said.

Investigators said the victim, who recently had a liver transplant, was using a copy machine at a New Jersey Staples when a woman, wearing a mask below her mouth, walked up to use a nearby machine, WABC reported.

The woman became irate after the victim asked her to wear her mask. Video shows the woman walk over to the victim and start yelling. The victim raises her cane to keep the woman at bay. The woman then grabs the victim and throws her to the ground before leaving the store.

The victim was taken to a hospital with a broken leg, WNBC reported.

No arrests have yet been made.
