The grocery store in Washington state that sold the winning $754.6 Powerball ticket in Monday’s drawing donated its $50,000 bonus check to an area food bank.
The Fred Meyer store in Auburn won the bonus for selling the winning ticket, KIRO-TV reported. It was the fifth-largest Powerball jackpot in the promotion’s history and the ninth-largest U.S. lottery jackpot. The jackpot had rolled over 33 times before Monday’s drawing.
The company donated the entire bonus to the Auburn Food Bank on Thursday, according to the television station. According to a joint statement from the grocery store chain and the food bank, the donation will provide about 66,000 meals.

“Hunger and food insecurity are critical issues across the state and partnerships like this one with Fred Meyer and QFC aim to shrink the numbers of people facing food insecurity,” Debbie Christian, executive director of the Auburn Food Bank, said in a statement.
Fred Meyer added that the donation was made to honor the company’s Zero Hunger | Zero Waste strategy, which is aimed at eliminating waste and ending hunger, KIRO reported.
“It’s always good to give back and today everyone wins,” Fred Meyer President Todd Kammeyer said in a statement. “In addition to this donation, Fred Meyer is giving $10,000 to the store for our associates to celebrate.”
