DIVIDE COUNTY, N.D. — Fellow farmers know how to stick together when something happens to one of their own.
Lane Unhjem recently suffered a heart attack, going into cardiac arrest after his combine harvester caught fire, USA Today reported.
Instead of letting the fields of durum wheat and canola go unharvested, dozens of neighbors came together with their combines to harvest the crops, KFYR reported.
A friend of the Unhjem family spoke to farmers who then started calling other friends to get the manpower and equipment needed to help the farmer out.
When it was all said and done, there were 11 combines, six grain carts and 15 semi-trucks to get the harvesting done.
“Everybody knows the Unhjems, and they’re good people and good in the community, and just kind of the farming way of life too. You help your neighbor out when they need it and don’t expect anything in return,” Jenna Bindle told KFYR.
Bindle was the person who organized the help.
In seven hours, 1,000 acres of crops were harvested.
