A K-9 with a southern Minnesota sheriff’s department had a smashing debut on his first day of work, helping to locate 30 pounds of drugs and thousands of dollars in cash.

According to a Facebook post by the Renville County Sheriff’s Office, K-9 Maverick assisted deputies and other law enforcement members as they executed a search warrant in Renville on Wednesday morning.

During the search, Maverick alerted his handler, Deputy Luke Jacques, to a package that contained more than a pound of cocaine, KSTP-TV reported. Officers also recovered 29 pounds of marijuana and more than $35,000 in cash, according to the television station.

According to the sheriff’s office, the estimated street value of the drugs is more than $125,000.

Authorities said one person was taken into custody, KSTP reported. The suspect has not been officially charged as of late Wednesday, according to the television station.

“This case is yet another example of the excellence, collaboration and teamwork by all of our deputies, officers, DTF (Drug Task Force) agents and others who are dedicated to keeping us safe!” the sheriff’s office wrote.
