Coronavirus: US total tops 13 million positive cases

The United States topped another milestone in the coronavirus pandemic on Friday, with more than 13 million positive cases.

As of Friday afternoon, the U.S. total stood at 13,047,202, according to the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker. The worldwide total stood at 61,473,875.

It took only six days for the United States’ total to grow from 12 million positive cases.

The death toll in the U.S. continued to rise, with 264,624 fatalities as of Friday afternoon. Worldwide, there are 1,440,207 deaths.

Eight states have at least 10,000 COVID-19 deaths, with New York leading at 34,457, followed by Texas (21,687), California (19,055), Florida (18,363), New Jersey (16,942), Illnois (12,685), Massachusetts (10,604) and Pennsylvania (10,195), according to Johns Hopkins.

Georgia and Michigan are closing in on 10,000 deaths.
