In 2006, the 97X Next Big Thing moved from its home for the previous 5 years, Coachman Park to what was then called the Ford Amphitheater. The show was announced just days after My Chemical Romance performed “Welcome to the Black Parade” on a roof in New York City for the MTV VMAs. My Chemical Romance would headline a 97X Next Big Thing for the first time that year (They also headlined 2010). They were joined by Taking Back Sunday, Thirty Seconds To Mars, Angels & Airwaves, OK GO, Three Days Grace, Shaun Morgan, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Kill Hannah, Say Anything, Plain White T’s, Shiny Toy Guns and Luna Halo. A contest winner got the opportunity to run on a treadmill during a song in OK GO’s set replicating their music video. Shaun Morgan of Seether performed an acoustic Green Room performance on the Main Stage. The NBT 6 t-shirts sold featured Blue October in the lineup although they never played the show, having cancelled days before. |
