Critics blast Washington Redskins for Thanksgiving tweet

From most other organizations, a social media post wishing followers a happy Thanksgiving would garner little attention. But for a NFL team that has been criticized by everyone from government officials to football fans for what is perceived as a racist and derogatory team name, even the most innocuous of actions can spark outrage.

The Washington Redskins posted the following tweet on their official Twitter account.

Those angered by the team’s Thanksgiving tweet lashed out on Twitter, calling the post tone-deaf and in poor taste. Some wondered if Dan Snyder, who is adamantly against changing the team’s name, was taking a shot at his critics.

Washington’s team woes extend to the playing field, where a poorly performing Robert Griffin III has been benched in favor of backup quarterback Colt McCoy. The team has a 3-8 record.
