U.S. National Snow Sculpting Championship returns to Wisconsin

LAKE GENEVA, Wis. — There is plenty of snow in the U.S. this weekend, with several feet falling since Friday. While many residents are concerned with power outages and cold weather, another group of people is getting ready for the 27th annual U.S. National Snow Sculpting Championship.

The 27th annual Winterfest in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, will return as the staging ground for this year’s event, WEAU-TV reported.

This year’s event will field 15 teams from Alaska to Florida, the television station reported.

Sculpting will begin on Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. CST and will end three days later at 1 p.m. CST, according to the Winterfest website.

This year’s entries will include mythological creatures, Olympic dreams, babies and geometric structures, Lake Geneva Regional News reported.

Last year’s winner was called “Inoculation” and was created by a team from Wisconsin, according to the Winterfest website. First place in the People’s Choice category, also created by a Wisconsin team, was called “Tribal Dance.”

The sculptures will be available for viewing through Feb. 6.
