Whenever we add music for voting on 97x - whether it's cool new stuff or inspired by the "Suggest A Song" space on the app/website - we will let you know through our New Music Blog!
Some of today's songs were suggested through the app, but they're also cool new music. So I thought I'd post a video with each so you can check them out. Let us know what you think!
Bastille hit a home run with their platinum-selling debut single “Pompeii”. I think I might dig the follow-up even more. “Bad Blood” is also the title-track from their debut album.
Silversun Pickups tacked a new song onto The Singles Collection (out 2/25). Here’s “Cannibal”.
Where their debut single “Hurricane” evoked dreamy, trippy groove of Portishead, MS MR showcases more of singer Lizzy Plapinger’s soulful side on “Think Of You”. I highly recommend checking out their debut album Secondhand Rapture if you haven’t.
Australian psych-rock duo Tame Impala topped many 2012 year-end lists with their second album Lonerism, and “Elephant” became an under-the-radar hit on alternative radio stations throughout 2013. “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” sounds like a song that went backwards – it owes a lot to The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds – and retro can be damn cool when a band does it right.
While we usually we devote “Vote For New Music” space to whatever’s, uh, you know… new, with the prevalence of the Taco Bell ad using Portugal. The Man’s incredible “Evil Friends” (my single favorite song and album of 2013), we wanted to remind you that it’s available for voting on the 97x app. They also staged an incredible Miller Lite Green Room performance in 2013 (see sidebar).
What do you think of these songs? Let us know in the comments! Be sure to add your favorites to the playlist on the 97x app or 97xonline.com to vote for them. And don’t forget to send us your Open Mic requests!
