Queens Of The Stone Age dabbled through most of their career last night at the Mahaffey Theater in downtown St. Petersburg, but stuck mostly to their recent Billboard chart-topping album ...Like Clockwork. Despite filling a classy, seated venue, most of the capacity crowd remained standing. As well they should have for this awesome band that played their first set in the Tampa Bay area since opening for Nine Inch Nails at the Forum in 2005.
But during the first song of the encore, one fan couldn't quite contain his love for QOTSA or keep it to himself. As Josh Homme sat at his piano crooning the second verse of "The Vampyre of Time And Memory" a burly, bearded fan stumbled towards from stage right and hugged Josh hard enough to knock him away from the piano.
