If you've never heard of record store day don't worry, you're not the only one. I wasn't really sure what it was either, so I did what I always do when I don't know something; I Googled it! Record store day was created by a music lover, Chris Brown (no not THAT Chris Brown), to celebrate music! It is internationally celebrated the third Saturday of April each year. Artists put together exclusive releases just for the day along with special appearances, performances, meet and greets with their fans, the holding of art exhibits, and the issuing of special vinyl and CD releases along with other promotional products to mark the occasion.
Now that we've got the brief history of the day out of the way now we can focous on the real news! This year's record store day brings about the 10th anniversary edition of the White Stripes 'Elephant'. Even though they are no longer together, they will release a reissue in honor of the 10th anniversary edition of their fourth studio album. Jack White said that the double LP will offer one record on split-color black and red vinyl, and the second will arrive on white vinyl.
Jack has also been named the ambassador for this years festivities. He joins the ranks of former ambassadors Iggy Pop, Ozzy Osbourne, and Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme.
The latest round of revelations from former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden expose some of the high-profile targets the agency has monitored — and there are some odd names on the list.
