Lostprophets singer jailed on child sex charges

Stateside, Welsh band Lostprophets never matched the success of their 2003 hit "Last Train Home", but they've strung together a respectable, somewhat under-the-radar career. All that is now in jeopardy now that frontman Ian Watkins sits in jail on some pretty odious child sex charges. Rolling Stone reports:

Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins has been charged by a Welsh court with conspiracy to rape a one-year-old girl and five other sex offenses, the BBC reports. Watkins, 35, hasn't admitted to the charges, which allegedly took place between May and December of this year.

The singer is also accused of conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a female under 13 and possession/distribution of indecent images of children. A 20-year-old woman faces the same charges as Watkins, while a 24-year-old woman faces five of the same charges but not conspiracy to rape. Watkins was remanded to custody following a court appearance today in Cardiff.

The singer co-founded Lostprophets in 1997. The band has released five albums, including their most recent, Weapons, which came out this past April.

While the Rolling Stone article mentions a one-year-old victim, the BBC article RS cited does not. We'll follow the story and provide updates when we learn more information.
