New Found Glory is wrapping up their often sold out run of 10th anniversary Sticks and Stones dates, during which they perform their 2002 album in its entirety, releasing a Christmas EP on old-school analog cassette, and eyeing a break next year. Billboard reports on the tour and hiatus:
Taking a bit of a break from making new music, Florida pop-punkers New Found Glory are having a good time this year celebrating the 10th anniversary of their breakthrough "Sticks and Stones" album by playing it in its entirety.
"Over the years of touring and everything I've met a lot of fans and talk to a lot of people, and they always go to 'Sticks and Stones' and how it was a big record for them," frontman Jordan Pundik tells Billboard. "A lot of bands have said it was a real influence on them, too. And any time we play a song from that record, it always goes off great live. It feels like the 10 years have gone by so fast, but it's great to get back to (the album) and play some of the songs that we haven't played in a long time." The group has also created a line of commemorative merchandise, including colored vinyl editions of the album. While it's reviewing the past, Pundik says New Found Glory is also considering a near-future of likely low activity for the group after extensive touring behind 2011's "Radiosurgery" and this year's "Sticks and Stones" run. "I think we need to go away for a little bit," explains Pundik, who's in the process of opening a tattoo shop in Nashville. "We've been touring for a long time. I don't think anybody's in the headspace for writing a new record. We won't go away completely; we're still gonna be doing things here and there, probably some one-offs and things like that. But to be honest I don't think we'll have anything new out until 2014." But, Pundik adds, he's not worried about the band members straying apart during any kind of hiatus.
"Oh, I'm completely confident we'll be back," he says. "We've done this before... the last time we had a long break was probably 2006 or 2007. A record runs its course and we take a break, and before long we're ready to do something again."
One thing fans might see, however, is New Found Glory's first live DVD. "There's talk about that," Pundik acknowledges. "We've never really done one, so it's kind of overdue. We'd like to shoot it in one of the places where a lot of die-hard fans live. I think that'll probably happen at some point soon."
As for their Christmas cassette - yes, those junky analog tapes are making something of a comeback - A Very New Found Glory Christmas will include two original NFG holiday compositions and three covers. Order it for $5 from newfoundglorystuff.com.
