Pearl Jam
Pearl Jam

By Joel

Pearl Jam Twenty is not just the band's feature-length documentary project - it's also a book. Pearl Jam Twenty weighs in at 400-pages of photos, memorabilia, and a chronological look back at the band's history - complete with comments from the band and other individuals involved. Billboard posted the entire '1994' chapter as an excerpt. During that year Pearl Jam toured Vs. and released Vitalogy, reflected on the loss of Kurt Cobain, and began their long battle against Ticketmaster - a key period in the history of the band. Here's my favorite bit from the chapter:

February 23-24
Carnegie Hall, New York

Eddie Vedder is an unannounced performer at two star-studded concerts dubbed Daltrey Sings Townshend in celebration of Who front man Roger Daltrey's fiftieth birthday... Vedder destroys his dressing room on a whim and attempts to write the lyric "I hope I die before I get old" from "My Generation" on the wall in his own blood. Carnegie Hall, in turn, sends him a bill for $25,000 in damages.

The Raconteurs - featuring Jack White formerly of The White Stripes - make their live return this fall. They're one of the alt/indie-friendly Saturday performers at the first ever Orlando Calling festival November 12 and 13. Bassist Jack Lawrence says expect different cover songs (they did a pretty wicked version of "Bang Bang" on their early tours) and some new arrangements of their original material. Jog your memory of The Raconteurs here.

Evanescence's new video for "What You Want" is online. Watch Amy Lee jump off a bridge here.

Florence + The Machine named their second albumCeremonials. Look for it November 1.

The Gaslight Anthem frontman Brian Fallon has a side project called The Horrible Crowes. Fallon says he doesn't get to do experimental "Tom Waits or PJ Harvey kind of stuff in Gaslight." Debut album Elsie is out now.

Stone Temple Pilots recently cancelled shows due to singer Scott Weiland's inflamed vocal chords. Also, Weiland has a Christmas album coming out. The Most Wonderful Time Of Year drops October 4, if you're into that kinda thing. His label describes it as "a variety of styles including big band swing, orchestrated ballads, reggae, bossa nova and more, all delivered with surprising ease by Scott Weiland." So I guess we shouldn't expect a grungy "Silent Night."

Mighty Mighty Bosstonesnew albumThe Magic Of Youth comes out December 6.

Beloved ska/punk label Asian Man Records is celebrating its 15th anniversary. Check out this oral history compiled by Punknews.org and AMR founder Mike Park.

Smashing Pumpkins dude Billy Corgan says their new album Oceania is about two weeks from being finished. Look for a digital release in November. If you follow the band closely, you'll know this album falls within Corgan's 44-song Teargarden by Kaleidyscope project that started in 2009.
