Coldplay is keeping their new album Mylo Xylotooff streaming services such as Rhapsody and Spotify. Those services pay royalty rates much lower than physical or pay-for-the-file digital sales (Spotify pays as low as $0.00015 per song). Spokesmen for both services respect the decisions of such artists, but Rhapsody's president reminds that piracy pays nothing and MP3s from places like iTunes stop compensating artists after the sale.

As for selling copies of the album, Billboard predicts Coldplay will debut at #1 and move at least 450,000 copies in its first week - making it the third biggest debut of 2011.

U2 frontman Bono is still concerned about his band being irrelevant, according to a British tabloid. Does U2 need to make hits in order to survive? They only had one top-20 single on the last album. Bono first mentioned his concerns in a Rolling Stone interview. Maybe he doesn't notice the many bands that have been around forever and sell tons of concert tickets, but make new music that is mostly ignored?

Chevelle frontman Pete Loeffler says their new song "Face To The Floor" is "about all the people who have been taken advantage of. I reference Bernie Madoff and his Ponzi scheme. He raked people over the coals, stole and is a terrible person. One day, these people have everything, and the next day it's completely gone."

The Black Keys went viral with their video for new song "Lonely Boy." Learn about the star of the clip, a 48-year-old actor/musician/part-time security guard named Derrick T. Tuggle.

Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan isn't saying exactly how far along they are on a new album so fans don't start "counting down" for it. Keenan says he's allowing guitarist Adam Jones and drummer Danny Carey "the space to do what they do." They haven't released an album since 10,000 Days in 2006.

R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe is unlikely to release solo material, according to former bandmate Mike Mills. Mills says the singer's interests lay mostly in visual arts like sculpture and photography. In the meantime, you can click here and watch the video for their last single starring Kirsten Dunst.

Morrissey'slibel suit against British music mag NME will be allowed to go forward. Here are details from one of last week's blogs.

Pennywise just entered the studio to work on their first album with their new singer. Fellow 90's punk band Lagwagon frontman Joey Cape isn't sure what's in his band's future, aside from lots of touring in 2012.

The Lemonheads will bring their It's a Shame About Ray tour to Crowbar in Ybor on February 24. They'll perform the 1992 album in its entirety. Here's a piece on frontman Evan Dando from a year ago where he was definitely still using heroin. I tried to see Lemonheads back in 2006, but left about 90 minutes after the band was supposed to start playing. At least 2/24 is a Friday.

The B-52s just put out their first live album... 34 years after they started playing shows.

The Damned will be subjects of a forthcoming documentary. Guitarist Captain Sensible says, "It seems like every other scumbag who was ever in a punk band got a film made about them, now it's our turn, and at least we have some real stories to tell. Hopefully, this will cause a bit of a stink, but that's what it was always supposed to do."
