97X Sunday School Music News for November 16, 2011

By Joel

Sonic Youth's future is uncertain due to the marital separation of Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon. They performed their final scheduled show in Brazil last weekend. Watch some of it here.

The Clash would be all about the Occupy movement if they were still around. Their bassist, Paul Simonon, along with a bunch of Greenpeace activitst anonymously infiltrated an oil rig owned by one of Europe's biggest energy companies. Simonon told no one of his identity during his time on the ship or the two weeks the activists were held in jail on hijacking charges.

Nirvana audio from a 1990 concert in Boston was posted online. The 40-minute set, recorded in a club in front of 60-75 people contains mostly songs from Bleach and a few that ended up on Nevermind and Incesticide.

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan wasn't kidding around about starting a professional wrestling company in Chicago. Resistance Pro launches after Thanksgiving. On the music front, Corgan promises the upcoming Gish and Siamese Dream reissues will offer a "massive upgrade in sound."

Descendents frontman Dr. Milo Aukerman focuses mostly on his day job - he's a biochemist at Dupont. Milo Went To College, after all. He explains why there's so little activity with the band:

Basically, I have limited amount of time I can do [Descendents work] , vacation days basically. Any recording we do would be at the expense of shows, so it's kind of one of these things like, well do you want to do more shows or do you want to sit down in a room and record? At some point, we will have to cross that bridge when we come to it, but for now we are just enjoying the shows so much. We do all have songs, I have written a few and I've never been that big of a songwriter, so if I can come up with two or three I'm pretty happy.
