97X Music News for November 2, 2011

By Joel

Coldplay have the #1 album in America after Mylo Xyloto debuted selling 447,000 copies. That's the third-largest debut of the year. But all is not well for Coldplay fans...

Do Coldplay fans have trouble getting laid? Music/dating website Tastebuds.fm asked its users to nominate the artists who represent the biggest musical "turn-offs." The top (bottom?) ten list is largely pop and rap, but Coldplay, U2, and Creed appear towards the middle - and Nickelback is #1 with a bullet.

Death Cab For Cutie singer Ben Gibbard and his wife, actress Zooey Deschanel, announced their separation after two years of marriage. Sources say the split is "mutual and amicable," but I bet maybe she's heard one too many creepy songs like this.

Rise Against and Foster The People both have new music videos for you to watch, but I can't embed either of them! Here are links to the weird clip for "Call It What You Want" by Foster The People and the performance and fan-centered video for "Satellite" by Rise Against.

Evanescence singer Amy Lee and Seether frontman Shaun Morgan used to date. They split over five years ago, but old wounds reopened with guitarist Troy McLawhorn returned to Evanescence after spending a few years playing with Seether. When Morgan heard about it, he referred to Evanescence as an "anti-Shaun club." McLawhorn doesn't add much detail other than, "It just wasn't working out for me personally... I wasn't in a good place."

Kings of Leon documentary Tahilina Sky came out on DVD and Blu-Ray today, if you missed the film on Showtime earlier this summer.

Say Anything frontman Max Bemis has re-opened his "song shop." Pay him $150 and he'll write and record a personalized song for you. Bemis will play solo at the Orpheum in Ybor on December 11.
