Come out to this event benefiting Big Cat Rescue at the Big Cat Rescue animal sanctuary on Saturday, March 15th!
The Global March for Lions is a worldwide event taking place on March 15th in more than 30 cities in 15 countries to raise awareness of the issues involving lions in Africa and those in captivity around the world. Big Cat Rescue is the organizer of the Tampa event. The cost is $5 per person, you must pre-register to participate. This event is subject to selling out.
Big Cat Rescue's event is a family day walk through their sanctuary to meet their lions, learn about the plight of lions, purchase tasty food truck fare, enjoy activities for kids, and send video messages to Senators and House Reps asking them to quickly march the pending Big Cats & Public Safety Protection Act federal bill through Congress.
In the last 50 years, the population of lions in the wild has declined from over 170,000 to less than 30,000. Yet lions are not on the endangered species list. Lions have vanished from over 80% of their historic hunting range. The greatest threats to wild lions are conflict with humans (revenge killings for livestock killed), habitat loss and lack of prey.
Big Cat Rescue's March for Lions will help people understand the link between paying to handle and play with a lion or tiger cub here in America and lions being slaughtered for their fur, bones and meat, both here and in Africa.
Big Cat Rescue is the largest accredited sanctuary in the world dedicated entirely to rescuing and providing a permanent home for abused and abandoned exotic cats. Located in Tampa, the sanctuary is home to more than 100 big cats, including lions, tigers, leopards, bobcats and more. Click here for more information on Big Cat Rescue.
Participants should park in the Citrus Park Crossing parking lot, NOT at the sanctuary. Citrus Park Crossing is located at 12802 Citrus Park Lane, behind McDonald's on Gunn Hwy and just east of the Veteran's Expressway.
Participants MUST pre-register and pre-pay $5 donation to attend. Participants may also fundraise for their walks. Register and learn more here: www.marchforlions.com.
