Mini Palm SchoolPresented by Monica Elliott, Ph.D.For Master Gardeners Only Dr. Monica Elliott, Professor of Plant Pathology, University of Florida/IFAS, will present an advanced Master Gardener  workshop that will discuss palm morphology, physiological disorders, common nutritional deficiencies, common palm diseases, and proper management of palms growing in a landscape (fertilization and pruning). She will be emphasizing diagnostic problems that are brought to County Plant Diagnostic Clinics.The training is a scaled down version of the 2-day class known as "Palm Management in the Florida Landscape."When:    February 13, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a one hour lunch break in our beautiful gardensWhere:  Kendrick Auditorium, Manatee County Agriculture and Extension Service located at 1303 17th Street  West in Palmetto, Florida 34221Registration Fee:  Workshop is $5.00 registration fee, payable at the door. Cash or check only. Checks made payable to Friends of Extension.  Lunch not included, please bring a brown bag lunch. Refrigerator available. You must pre-register on-line.Topics Include: Diagnosing Palm Problems, Palm Anatomy and Growth, Physiological Disorders, Nutrient Deficiencies, Sampling and Leaf Analysis, Transplant Issues, Palm Insects, Palm Diseases, Normal Abnormalities, Fertilizer Formulations, Fertilizer Application Techniques and Pruning Palms.Selection and identification of palm species will NOT be covered.       Programs of the Extension Service are available to all without discrimination with respect to race, creed, color, religion, age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, martial status, national origin, political opinions, or affiliations.The Manatee County Agriculture and Extension Service provides the educational resources of the University of Florida through materials and training to the citizens of Manatee County.  Topics relate to gardening, landscaping, water conservation and more.  It is cooperatively funded by Manatee County Government, the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (I.F.A.S.) and the United States Department of Agriculture (U.S.D.A.).
