The Centennial exhibition will feature artifacts never before seen in the Tampa Bay area and will run from October 6, 2012 through March 3 2013. Visitors to the highly anticipated blockbuster exhibit will receive a replica boarding pass granting them permission to “board” the White Star Line's R.M.S. Titanic, and from there the journey begins. The galleries focus on the legendary Titanic’s compelling human stories as best told through authentic artifacts recovered from the ocean floor and extensive room re-creations. From china etched with the logo of the elite White Star Line, to pieces of the Ship itself, these and many other authentic objects offer haunting, emotional connections to lives abruptly ended or forever altered. The series of galleries on the second floor of The Mahaffey begin with Construction before moving on to Passenger, Iceberg, Seabed and Memorial galleries with additional areas for Iceberg warnings and even Lifeboat Loading Profiles – all extensively covered by an audio tour to bring the Titanic story to life. On April 15, 1912, Titanic, the world’s largest ocean liner, sank after colliding with an iceberg just five days into its highly anticipated maiden voyage. This disaster claimed more than 1,500 lives and shook the world's confidence in the infallibility of modern technology. More than 5,500 authentic artifacts, including delicate porcelain dishes and a 17-ton section of the hull, have been recovered on research expeditions since the Ship’s discovery in 1985. The exhibition will feature 200 of these artifacts and tell the story behind the legendary Titanic’s short journey from construction and destruction, to eventual recovery. Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition is organized by Premier Exhibitions, Inc. RMS Titanic, Inc. RMS Titanic, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Premier Exhibitions, Inc., is the only company permitted by law to recover objects from the wreck site of Titanic. The Company was granted Salvor-in-possession rights to the wreck site of Titanic by a United States federal court in 1994 and has conducted eight research and recovery expeditions to Titanic’s debris field and recovered more than 5,500 artifacts.Premier Exhibitions, Inc. is a major provider of museum-quality touring exhibitions throughout the world.
