Host of the Emmy® nominated HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher
Comedian and political commentator Bill Maher returns to Ruth Eckerd Hall with his notoriously candid stand-up comedy one day after the Republican National Convention in Tampa. This will be Maher’s first return to Ruth Eckerd Hall since his sold-out concert in May 2008.
With more than eighteen years in television, Bill Maher has earned more than twenty Emmy® nominations for his hit TV shows and specials. Maher’s first creation, the late night talk show Politically Incorrect, ran from 1993 to 2002 and featured a round-table discussion of current events with four guests coming from pop culture, politics, and news. Politically Incorrect and Real Time with Bill Maher have featured many well known guests including Ben Affleck, Robin Williams, Chris Rock, John Edwards, Rev. Al Sharpton, Larry King, and Ann Coulter.
Along with his two hit shows, Maher has also written four bestsellers: True Story; Does Anybody Have a Problem with That? Politically Incorrect’s Greatest Hits; When You Ride Alone, You Ride with Bin Laden; New Rules: Polite Musings from a Timid Observer, which spent nearly three months on The New York Times Bestsellers list; and most recently The New New Rules: A Funny Look at How Everybody but Me Has Their Head Up Their Ass.
However, Maher’s true passion is stand-up comedy, which he began in 1979 and helped launch his notable career. Along with his weekly television show, he performs at least fifty shows a year in Las Vegas and in sold out theaters across the country. Two of his stand-up specials for HBO have been nominated for Emmy’s, including I’m Swiss in 2005, and The Decider in 2007.
