Baker, who turns 60 Jan. 26, gave fans reason to start penciling in a date when she tweeted that she would be in Atlanta May 13.

“I do know that it looks like Atlanta for Mother’s Day weekend,” Baker tweeted Jan. 4. “Tickets are not even on sale yet. Website will go up shortly with all info.”

She is also set to headline the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival this spring.

Baker said she has retired from music and would be embarking on a farewell concert earlier this month. She said that efforts to own her own material were part of the reason for her decision.

Kendrick Lamar: 5 things to know

Rapper and musician Kendrick Lamar is an accomplished Grammy award winner and songwriter, known for his socially conscious rhymes and religious themes in his music. Although he keeps his personal life private, there are still some things publicly known about the artist.

>> Read more trending news

Here are five things to know about Lamar.

Lamar is a Compton, California, native.

The rapper’s parents are originally from Chicago and moved to Los Angeles, where Lamar eventually made music under the name K-Dot and was signed to an independent music label before going mainstream.

“They came to LA on some high hopes,” Lamar told The New York Times of his parents. “They had like $500. They landed in Compton out of every place in LA; I don’t know how. They could have landed in the suburbs or the valley, but they didn’t.” Lamar was born in Compton on June 17, 1987.

He has been in a long-term relationship with his high school sweetheart.

In 2015, Lamar, a very private star, confirmed he was engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Whitney Alford.

“I wouldn’t even call her my girl,” he said of Alford in a 2015 Billboard interview. “That’s my best friend. I don’t even like the term that society has put in the world as far as being a companion -- she's somebody I can tell my fears to.”

He gifted his younger sister a car for graduation.

When his 18-year-old sister, Kayla Duckworth, graduated from high school, Lamar gifted her a practical 2017 Toyota sedan. Despite outside criticism, his sister was happy with her gift, posting it on Twitter.

“I don’t know if it’s the public or it’s kids on the internet that’s 12 years old and 13 and figured, you know, she’s supposed to have a Lamborghini by Kendrick Lamar,” the rapper said in response to the criticism. “Yeah, it’s a trip.”

He is a Christian and regularly expresses his faith in his music.

“I got a greater purpose,” Lamar said in a 2014 interview with Complex. “God put something in my heart to get across and that's what I’m going to focus on, using my voice as an instrument and doing what needs to be done.”

The intro to his second studio album and major-label debut, 2012’s “Good Kid, m.A.A.d City,” opens with a prayer.

Lamar’s 2009 song “Faith,” tackles his struggles with his own beliefs as life weighs on him, including the murder of a friend.

“I’m giving testimonies to strangers I never met / Hopped on the pulpit and told them how I was truly blessed / Felt like I’m free from all my sins when the service was over/ Walked out the church, then got a call that my homie was murdered then lost my faith again,” he raps.

Lamar dressed as Jesus Christ at a Halloween party in 2014, and explained his reasoning for doing so in an interview with The Fader

“If I want to idolize somebody, I’m not going to do a scary monster, I’m not gonna do another artist or a human being — I’m gonna idolize the master, who I feel is the master, and try to walk in his light. It’s hard, it’s something I probably could never do, but I’m gonna try,” he said. “Not just with the outfit but with everyday life. The outfit is just the imagery, but what's inside me will display longer.

Lamar’s 2015 single, “Alright,” has become and anthem for Black Lives Matter.

The rapper told The New York Times in 2016 that he realized his song was becoming an anthem for the social justice movement when it was being sung across the world.

“When I’d go in certain parts of the world, and they were singing it in the streets, when it’s outside of the concerts, then you know it’s a little bit more deep-rooted than just a song,” he said. “It’s more than just a piece of a record. It’s something that people live by — your words.”

“Simple phrase: We gon’ be alright. It’s a chant of hope and feeling. I credit that to (musician and producer) Pharrell, for being able to present an arrangement and to inspire me to do a record like that. Immediately, I knew the potential.”

The song, from Lamar’s 2015 album, “To Pimp A Butterfly,” earned him a Grammy for Best Rap Song.

Oprah 'intrigued' by idea of running for president, friend Gayle King says

Longtime pal Gayle King said Tuesday that Oprah Winfrey is “intrigued” by the idea of running for president, although she said it’s still unclear whether the media mogul is seriously considering a run.

>> Read more trending news

“I don’t think at this point she is actually considering it,” King said on “CBS This Morning.”

“She loves this country and would like to be of service in some way, but I don’t think she’s actively considering it.”

Two of Winfrey’s friends, who were not identified, told CNN on Monday that she was “actively thinking” about running for president. Her long-time partner Stedman Graham told the Los Angeles Times on Sunday that Winfrey “would absolutely do it."

"It's up to the people," he added.

King said Tuesday that she thought Graham misunderstood the Times reporter’s question.

“He thought the reporter said to him, ‘Would she make a good president?’ And he said, ‘Absolutely she would,’” King said. “That's how he interpreted the question, because this is the thing. Stedman would never so cavalierly say absolutely she would do it. It's up to the people. He would never do that.”

Winfrey fueled speculation that she could look to mount a campaign in a rousing, nearly 10-minute speech at the Golden Globes on Sunday. Still, she denied having any presidential ambitions while speaking with a Bloomberg News reporter backstage at the awards show.

She was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her contributions to the entertainment industry and used her time onstage to address the “#MeToo” movement. The movement has encouraged more women to speak out about their experiences of sexual harassment and assault.

"I want all the girls watching here, now, to know that a new day is on the horizon," Winfrey said. "And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say 'Me too' again.”

King, who was at the Golden Globes when Winfrey gave her speech, described being in the room as “electrifying.”

“It was the right person giving the right speech at the right time,” she said. “She wanted that moment to be more than women wearing black dresses of solidarity. She really did want to speak to young girls around the country. She really did want to say, ‘Enough already,’ and I think she delivered on all that in a very eloquent way. Will she run for president? I think it's a very, very intriguing idea myself."

“I’m straightforward and I tell it like it is,” the 26-year-old said when she talked to PEOPLE about her new career as a reality TV star. “And I love learning about everybody from different cultures, different lifestyles, whatever it is. How could I turn it down?”

Mellencamp, who also earns a living as a wellness accountability coach, had some advice for anyone who came into 2018 with a bunch of New Year’s resolutions:

“People say, ‘I’m going to tell myself to do this and I’m going to do it every day for a year,’” she recently explained to Page Six. “Of course that’s not gonna happen, and of course things are going to fall off the tracks and then you know what you’re gonna feel? Guilty.”

Teddi, who has two kids — Cruz, 3, and Slate, 5 — with her husband, also spoke about her own body image issues.

“I was still significantly larger than I had ever been,” she told Page Six. “I realized I’m complaining to my husband, I’m complaining to my friends, and I’m not doing anything about it, it was that moment where I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m looking for someone else to change something that I need to change.’”

“Then I became that person,” changing her mindset and making a career out of motivating others to stick to their goals.

Stephen Hawking turns 76; How has he survived ALS for more than 50 years?

Acclaimed physicist Stephen Hawking turned 76 Monday, beating the odds and outliving most people diagnosed with ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease, by decades.

>> Read more trending news

Hawking was diagnosed with progressive and degenerative motor neurone disease in 1963 when he was 21 years old, according to Hawking.org, and given just two years to live by doctors.

He’s defied those odds by more than 50 years, but it’s not exactly clear why Hawking has survived almost a full lifetime, when most patients diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) live no more than roughly three years after diagnosis, according to the ALS Association.

It could have something to do with the age he was diagnosed. Most people develop the illness, which impairs the function of nerves and muscles, between 55 and 75, the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Strokes (NINDS) reports. Those diagnosed with the disease at a younger age tend to live longer, according to ALS studies.

Genetics may also play a role in Hawking’s lengthy survival, Live Science reported.

There is no cure for ALS, but there are several FDA-approved drugs that can extend life expectancy by about six months, according to Live Science, which doesn’t explain Hawking’s long survival with the disease.

While the illness may have forced Hawking into a wheelchair and left him voiceless with his only means of communication through a computer, it never slowed down his intellect  or genius and, if anything, seemed to accelerate his scientific drive and ambition. He spent 30 years as a professor at Cambridge, and, in addition to his scientific accomplishments, he’s also a prolific writer and penned one of the most iconic books of the 20th century “A Brief History of Time.”

Winona Ryder’s performance in L’Oreal commercial earns praise

“Stranger Things” star Winona Ryder blew fans away during Sunday evening’s Golden Globes awards ceremony -- but not because of any thing that happened at the actual event.

Ryder was able to set social media ablaze thanks to her appearance in a series of commercials for L’Oreal Paris hair products that aired throughout the night.

“Everyone loves a comeback,” text that appeared on screen during the commercial read. “Damaged hair deserves one too.”

The actress’s face is concealed until the last 20 seconds of the 60-second advertisement, and it was the reveal that excited many on social media.

AdAge reported that the commercial represents Ryder’s journey from her first Golden Globe win for “Age of Innocence” to her arrest for shopliftin in 2003 to her comeback, thanks to Netflix’s sci-fi/horror drama “Stranger Things.”

“We thought it would be great to celebrate timely comeback stories about women who are back on top of the world,” Sean Bryan, co-chief creative officer of advertising company McCann told AdAge. “And there was nobody better to start with than Winona Ryder.:

Last year, Ryder admitted that she was bullied after starring in the ’80s classic Tim Burton film “Beetlejuice.”

In an interview with Marie Claire UK, she said that her peers called her a “witch” despite the insane popularity of the film.

“I remember thinking, ‘Ooh, it’s, like, the number-one movie. This is going to make things great at school,’” Ryder said. “But it made things worse. They called me a witch.”

Ryder went on to win a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1993 Martin Scorsese film “The Age of Innocence,” and she’s had roles in films like “Edward Scissorhands,” “Heathers,” “Girl, Interrupted” and “Black Swan.”
